Principal Connections, the Irish Office of Agilium Worldwide Executive Search Group, recently unveiled a new report capturing the views of more than 200 CHROs, CPOs, HRDs and HoHRs. The report examines the current disposition of the HR Director functional role in Ireland.
Pat O’Donnell, Managing Partner at Principal Connections: “In the corporate pecking order, the role of the HR Director has often played second fiddle to the more commercially driven aspects of corporate operations. And while business-savvy CEOs have long recognized the strategic importance of HR, the COVID-19 pandemic has further underscored the role of the HR Director as one of the most important functions for organizations worldwide.”
Whilst conducting executive search projects Principal Connections works together with many of Ireland’s most senior HR Directors, and the report reveals some very perceptive findings. For example, nine out of ten HR Directors work more than an average of 39 hours per week, with one in three receiving fixed remuneration of €150k or more. Strikingly, one in three expect to receive a bonus of between 10 and 25% for 2020, and it appears that pension and sick leave are the most common benefits received.
The report finds that acting as a trusted strategic advisor appears to be a CEO’s top expectation of the HR Director, and COVID-19 and its impact are most likely to be a HR Director’s greatest concern right now. It appears that the role of the HR Director has changed greatly over the past five years through greater involvement in strategic planning for the business.
