“Is prime office space still important for executive search firms?” – The results of a recent survey

A recent survey conducted by AGILIUM WORLDWIDE among its member firms produced interesting results regarding the use of prime office space within three time frames: (1) during COVID lockdown periods, (2) post-COVID restrictions and (3) medium-term future. A total of 26 member firms responded to the questions in the survey.

How many days have you worked in the office during the last six months?
Just over 40% of members spent no more than 10 days in their offices during COVID lockdowns, while around 20% continued to work from their offices every day, often as the only person present.

When restrictions are over do you plan to use your office space as much as before the pandemic?
Almost 60% of members want to adopt a new working space model, combining working in the office and working from home. Only around 4% had not yet made up their mind.

Almost 40% want to keep their current arrangement and they believe that a representative office is crucial to their business. However, 30% of respondents intend to reduce their office space, but stay in a good location. It seems that executive search consultants prefer to meet their clients and prospects in an office environment.

In spite of the extensive discussion on usage of office space and necessity for face-to-face meetings, when members were asked: “What percentage of your searches have NOT closed because you/the client could not interview candidates faces to face?” an overwhelming 80% responded that less than 20% of completed searches were negatively impacted by the lack of personal, face-to-face interviewing.

In conclusion, it seems that executive search consultants definitely prefer to have an office environment so that clients and candidates can meet face-to-face, but that COVID-19 restrictions have caused us to adapt to “virtual search” and that this has not necessarily had a negative effect on the success rate of search projects.
